Sidebar

The Sidebar is a panel that opens on the right edge of every page, with your whole library: you browse, hover to see the content, click to insert. It's the tool for searching without knowing exactly what for.

Opening the Sidebar Starter

A small Modula icon sits on the right edge of every page. Hover over it: the panel opens. It closes when the mouse leaves it. Clicking the icon also opens or closes it.

How to
  1. First click in the field where the text should go.
  2. Hover over the Modula icon on the right edge of the page.
  3. Click an item in the list.

Tabs and search Basic

The panel lists your whole library, favourites first. If you have turned on SmartMails, three tabs appear at the top: All, SmartTexts and SmartMail.

The search field filters the list as you type. It is the same search as the Launcher's, including * to search within a category.

Preview on hover Basic

Hover over an item: a preview card appears next to the panel, with the full content, its formatting and its fields in colour. You check before inserting.

Two gestures to insert Basic

Click on…Effect
the titleOpens the insertion form (if there are fields), then inserts
the icon to the left of the titleInserts, copies or opens the email immediately

A SmartMail opens your email program. With no active input field, a SmartText is copied to the clipboard.

Moving the icon Advanced

If the icon hides a button on the page, drag it up or down. Its height is remembered for that site: other sites keep theirs.

  • Double-clicking the icon puts it back in its default place, on that site.
  • Nothing is remembered from a private browsing window.

Reviewing and clearing remembered positions Advanced

The sites where you moved the icon are listed in Settings → Toolbox, Sidebar tab, with their height (top, middle, bottom). Clear one site's position, or all of them at once.

The ⚙ button in the panel's header opens Modula's Options: handy for creating a SmartText you're missing.
