Creating and editing
Formatting
The content of a SmartText can be formatted: bold, headings, lists. This formatting is kept in rich editors (Gmail, Outlook on the web, Notion…) and becomes clean plain text in a simple field.
Bold, italic, underline, headings Basic
The toolbar above the content formats the selected text: bold, italic, underline, and three heading levels. The usual shortcuts also work: Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, Ctrl+U.
Text pasted from Word or Google Docs keeps its structure (headings, lists, bold), but not its fonts or colours: what gets inserted looks like what you see in the preview.
Code block Advanced
The code button puts a passage in a fixed-width font, on its own block: a command, a configuration snippet, an identifier to copy exactly as is.
Bulleted and numbered lists Basic
The •— and 1.— buttons turn the selected lines into a bulleted or numbered list. Clicking the same button again removes the list.
The “Next steps” SmartText contains a numbered list: 1. Review the document, 2. Gather comments, 3. Send the final version. In Gmail, it arrives as a real list; in a plain field, as lines “1.”, “2.”, “3.”.
A dynamic field placed in a bullet stays there, even if its value spans several lines.
Levels and lists from the keyboard Advanced
A list can have up to three levels. Everything can be done from the keyboard:
| Gesture | Effect |
|---|---|
- or * at the start of a line | Creates a bulleted list |
1. at the start of a line | Creates a numbered list |
| Backspace right after | Cancels the list and gives back the dash or number you typed |
| Tab / Shift+Tab in a list | Increases / decreases the bullet's level |
| Enter on an empty bullet | Goes up one level, or leaves the list |
| Backspace at the start of a bullet | Removes the bullet; the text stays |
Outside a list, Tab keeps its usual role: moving to the next field.
