Privacy

Modula runs entirely on your computer. No account, no server, no usage statistics: your texts never leave your browser.

Everything stays on your computer Starter

Your SmartTexts, SmartMails, categories and settings are saved in Chrome's storage, on this computer. Modula has no server to send them to, and nobody — us included — can read them.

As a result, they don't sync between your computers, and they disappear if you uninstall Modula. To get them back elsewhere, use a backup.

The only two connections to the Internet Basic

Modula only connects to the Internet in two cases, both started by you:

  • A quick action you choose (Google, Google Maps, or a service you added) opens that service with the selected text.
  • Checking your licence key, if you activated one: at activation, then at most once a day. Only the key is sent.

Modula loads nothing else from the Internet — not even its fonts or the icons of your quick actions, which are emojis.

The clipboard Basic

Modula only reads the clipboard when a SmartText contains the Clipboard field, at the moment you insert it. Never otherwise.

What websites see Basic

Modula's tools (Sidebar, Launcher, form…) are displayed in the pages, but in a closed area: the site can't read their content — the list of your texts, what you type in the form. It only sees the text you insert into its fields yourself.

AutoFetch and your pages Basic

If you use AutoFetch, when the insertion form opens Modula reads, in your open tabs, the elements you have linked to a field. The value read fills the field, isn't kept and doesn't leave your computer.

To find the element again, Modula only saves the address of the pages concerned and an encoded fingerprint, which contains no readable text from the page.

The problem report Basic

The report you can send us (see Report a problem) never contains the text of your items, your keywords, or the sites you configured. It only goes out if you send it yourself.
