The tools

Overbar

The Overbar is a bar that appears above the field you're writing in, with your favourite SmartTexts and SmartMails. One click, and the text is inserted. It's made for the handful of texts you use ten times a day.

Turning the Overbar on Advanced

The Overbar is turned off at install.

How to
  1. Open Modula's Options, then Settings → Toolbox.
  2. Overbar tab: turn the switch on. The tab's dot turns green.

Choosing what it shows: favourites Advanced

The Overbar shows the items marked as favourites (★). Keep them few: beyond about ten, the bar overflows and loses its point.

Example

Camille marks “Signature”, “Acknowledgement” and “Delivery tracking” as favourites. In every field she writes in, these three buttons appear above.

How to
  1. In the SmartTexts or SmartMails list, open an item's ⋮ menu, then Add to favourites.
  2. Or, in the edit form, tick ★ Favorite.
  3. For several items at once: ☑ Organize, tick the items, Favourites button.
Good to know

A favourite is recognisable in the lists by its golden star, and it moves to the top of the list.

Inserting from the Overbar Advanced

Click in an input field: the Overbar appears above it. Click a button: the text is inserted at the cursor. If it contains fields, the insertion form opens first.

The bar follows the field: if it grows as you write, the bar stays attached to it without hiding your text. If there's no room above, it goes below.

Scrolling the bar Advanced

When the buttons don't fit across, arrows appear at the ends. You can also scroll the bar with the mouse wheel, with the pointer over the bar.

Moving the Overbar Advanced

If the bar hides something, move it by its ⠿ handle. Its position is remembered, and the bar keeps following the field with this new offset.

FieldThe position applies to…
Recognised by Modula (it has a stable name)that field only
Not recognisedall the site's unrecognised fields
How to
  1. Grab the ⠿ handle and drag the bar.
  2. To go back to the default position: double-click the handle.
Good to know

Nothing is remembered from a private browsing window: the list of positions would reveal the sites you visited.

Reviewing and clearing remembered positions Advanced

The sites where you moved the Overbar are listed in Settings → Toolbox, Overbar tab. Clear one site's position, or all of them at once.

Several items for the same keyword Expert

When several items share the same keyword and at least one of them is a favourite, the Overbar shows only one button for that keyword, marked ▾. A click inserts the favourite shown; on hover, a menu lists all the items for that keyword, favourite or not.

Example

“Signature — English” (favourite) and “Signature — French” share !sig. The Overbar shows a single “Signature — English ▾” button; on hover, Camille can pick the French version.

Hiding the Overbar on certain sites Expert Pro

On a site where the bar gets in the way — an editor that already has its own toolbar, for example — switch it off without turning it off elsewhere.

How to
  1. Settings → Restrictions, Overbar line.
  2. Choose Block only on these sites and add the addresses concerned.

See Site restrictions.
