History and undo
Modula keeps three safety nets, from the finest to the widest: an item's earlier versions, the bin, and undoing the latest operations. Everything stays on this computer.
An item's versions Advanced
Each saved change keeps the previous version: 1 on the Free plan, 5 on Pro and during the trial, for 90 days. They can be viewed in the editor, 🕘 History button, or through an item's ⋮ menu, History. See The editor.
A version keeps the text, title, keyword, category and insertion settings — not the favourite or the use counter.
Undoing an operation Expert
The last 10 operations are listed in Settings → Data management, History tab, ↩ Latest operations card: an import, a conversion, a category given or a deletion done in a batch, a renaming, merging or deletion of a category, a repair.
- Click Undo next to the operation.
- Modula first says what will happen: how many items come back, which go to the bin, which are left aside.
- Confirm with Undo the operation (or Undo the import).
- An item changed since is never overwritten: it is left as is, and Modula tells you so.
- An item created by the operation goes to the bin; those it had put in the bin come back.
- A category created by the operation is removed if it stayed empty and you haven't touched it since.
- The undo is itself an operation: it can be undone in turn.
Camille gave the “Sales” category to 30 items by mistake. She undoes the operation: the 30 get their old category back. One of them, which she had edited in the meantime, is left unchanged.
Clearing the history Expert
In the History tab, 🕘 History and bin card:
- Clear all history erases every item's versions and the operations' previous state — which then lose their Undo button;
- Empty the bin erases the deleted items.
For a single item: in its history, Clear this item's history.
Useful if you removed sensitive information from a SmartText: its earlier versions still contain it. History and bin never go into an export or a backup.
